Electives, Classes, & Clubs
8th - 12th Grade

Fridays are all about flexibility and exploration! Students can choose a full-day experience that embeds breaks and a social lunch period, allowing for a well-rounded day of learning and fostering community and connection, or they may select our à la carte model. Whether taken for credit or just for fun, electives range from creative arts and hands-on sciences to cultural exploration and skill-building workshops, offering something for everyone in a dynamic, engaging environment.

Full Time & A La Carte

Students may enroll for a full day or attend classes a la carte. Full-day students enjoy a rotation for 4 courses paired with a morning break and supervised lunch at the park, creating a dynamic day or learning and socialization! Full-day students also enjoy a reduced "daily" rate and receive priority course registration to ensure they receive their top class selections.

& Enrichment Options

We provide a variety of elective options to meet the goals and interests of our students, including courses that follow the Georgia's DOE graduation requirements, courses that help build your USG-ready transcript based on Georgia's Required High School Curriculum, and courses that can be taken for enrichment, enjoyment, and to round out your homeschool transcript.

 

Electives noted under the "Core Credits" section are designed to build your college-ready transcript. Electives noted under "Enrichment Electives" may be applied to your homeschool transcript or taken for enjoyment.
 

Social Enjoyment

Our program is designed to foster a sense of community through socialization and friendship-building opportunities. Therefore, we present ample opportunity for students to enjoy time together though breaks, an extended lunch, interactive courses, and interest-based classes & clubs.

Field Trips

All students enrolled through Weatherstone are invited to join our clubs, meet-ups, and field trips.

Field trips are generally offered on Fridays 5 - 6 times per year.

Academic Electives (RHSC/USG-Ready)

Students following the RHSC (Required High School Curriculum) must complete a select number of credits from a variety of content areas. Our core electives help to satisfy RHSC curriculum.  Students applying for the HOPE scholarship and/or a USG school should check specific admissions requirements to ensure their students meet 'rigor' requirements.

ADVANCED COMPOSITION
Core Credit: English Language Arts / Elective & RHSC: Advanced Composition
Course Style: Lecture, Textbook, Written Assignments

Advanced Composition is a rigorous high school course that challenges students to develop sophisticated writing skills across various genres. Emphasizing critical thinking and nuanced argumentation, students engage in in-depth research, advanced essay writing, and creative composition. The course focuses on refining writing style, voice, and structure, helping students produce well-organized, compelling works. With an emphasis on revision, peer feedback, and self-reflection, students will strengthen their ability to craft persuasive and analytical essays, preparing them for higher education and beyond. Students should expect 2 - 3 hours of home study per week.​

FANTASY WORLD BUILDING
Core Credit: 4th English / Elective * RHSC: Advanced Composition
Course Style: Project-Based Learning

Fantasy World Building challenges students to craft immersive worlds, dynamic characters, and compelling narratives inspired by tabletop RPGs and fantasy literature. Through world building exercises, interactive storytelling, and character-driven plots, students refine their writing skills while exploring themes of heroism, conflict, and myth. Emphasizing narrative structure, dialogue, and lore development, this course equips writers with the tools to create rich, believable settings for games, novels, or campaigns.​

HANDS-ON GEOGRAPHY & GEORGIA STUDIES

Core Credit: Social Science / Elective * RHSC: Local Area Studies & Geography
Course Format: Lecture, Research, Project-Based Learning

Georgia Studies & Geography is an in-depth, hands-on exploration of Georgia’s history, government, economy, and geographic features within both state and global contexts. Students analyze Georgia’s role in key historical events, from its founding as a colony to its impact on the Civil Rights Movement and modern politics. The course also examines the state’s diverse physical geography, natural resources, and economic development, emphasizing how geography influences culture, industry, and population distribution.

FOOD & NUTRITION SCIENCE

Credit Option: 4th Science / Elective

RHSC: Food and Nutrition Through the Lifespan

Food, Nutrition, & Human Physiology is an in-depth course that examines the biochemical and physiological processes behind nutrition and human health. Students explore macronutrients, micronutrients, and their roles in metabolism, digestion, and cellular function. The course integrates principles of anatomy and physiology, focusing on how different organ systems—such as the digestive, endocrine, and circulatory systems—interact with dietary choices. Through hands-on cooking labs, meal planning, and analysis of nutritional case studies, students develop a scientific understanding of food’s impact on energy production, disease prevention, and overall physiological function.

Electives (Standard Diploma)

General academic electives allow students to explore diverse interests while earning transcript credit. Covering areas like fine arts, technology, and business, these courses support personal growth, skill development, and career exploration, helping students build a well-rounded education.

ART THROUGH THE MASTERS
Credit Option: Fine Arts / Elective

Art Through the Masters is a hands-on, immersive course that explores the techniques and styles of history’s greatest artists. Each week, students are introduced to a new master—such as Van Gogh, Kahlo, or Picasso—studying their unique approach and the cultural impact of their work. Through guided projects, students experiment with different mediums and methods, creating their own pieces inspired by each artist’s style. This course encourages creativity, artistic expression, and a deeper appreciation for the evolution of art, providing a fun and engaging way to develop new skills while connecting with the masters of the past.

Credit Option: Basic Math / Elective

Business Math equips students with practical mathematical skills essential for real-world financial and business applications. Topics include budgeting, banking, taxes, payroll, interest calculations, investments, and business statistics. Through hands-on projects and problem-solving activities, this course builds quantitative literacy and prepares students for financial responsibility in both personal and professional settings.​​

ENTERPRENEURSHIP & BUSINESS INNOVATION
Credit Option: Elective

Entrepreneurship & Business Innovation takes students through the full process of launching a business, from idea development and market research to branding, budgeting, and marketing. Students create a business plan, design their brand, build a website, refine their products or services, and apply real-world skills in finance and sales. The course culminates in a Business Fair, where they showcase and sell their offerings. Through hands-on experience, students build confidence, creativity, and the entrepreneurial mindset needed for future success.

ESSAY WRITING 101 (FUNDAMENTALS)
Core Credit: English Language Arts / Elective 

Basic Writing is designed for students with low exposure to writing and/or for students with dyslexia & dysgraphia. This course offers a supportive, skill-building class designed to help students strengthen their writing abilities while addressing challenges related to dyslexia and dysgraphia. Through tailored strategies, students will develop foundational skills in composition, including organizing thoughts, improving handwriting, and enhancing reading comprehension. The course offers personalized instruction, using assistive technology and visual aids to help students effectively express themselves in writing. Emphasizing confidence-building and individualized progress, this class provides a structured yet flexible approach to writing development for all learners.

FITNESS FUSION
Credit Option: Health / Personal Fitness 

Fitness Fusion is a physically active course designed to build lifelong health and wellness habits. Students rotate through a selection of fitness units, including yoga, kickboxing, HIIT training, and more, gaining exposure to various workout styles. Emphasizing strength, endurance, flexibility, and overall well-being, this course helps students develop personal fitness goals and discover enjoyable ways to stay active for life. Students will need to purchase a personal workout mat, along with a set of strength bands and elastics (supply list will be given out at the beginning of the year).

Crime Scene Tape

FORENSIC SCIENCE
Core Credit: Science / Elective 

Forensic Science is a thrilling, hands-on course where students dive into the world of crime scene investigation and uncover the science behind solving mysteries. Through engaging activities and case studies, students explore key forensic techniques such as fingerprinting, blood spatter analysis, DNA profiling, and toxicology. They apply critical thinking and scientific methods to solve fictional crimes, learning how evidence is collected, analyzed, and used to crack cases. This course emphasizes teamwork, attention to detail, and problem-solving skills, giving students an exciting, real-world look into the field of forensic science.

Full STEAM Ahead is an exciting, hands-on course that combines the worlds of science, technology, engineering, art, and math in a fun and creative way! Students tackle real-world challenges by designing gadgets, building cool prototypes, experimenting with new technologies, and even creating digital art. Whether constructing a bridge, coding a game, or blending math with artistic flair, each project sparks curiosity and teamwork. This course is all about exploring, experimenting, and having fun while discovering how the exciting fields of STEAM work together to solve problems and ignite innovation.

Classes & Clubs

Our Interest-Based Classes are teacher-led but relaxed and engaging, allowing students to explore subjects they enjoy without the pressure of a traditional academic setting. These classes focus on hands-on learning, creativity, and personal growth while fostering a supportive and interactive environment. Clubs, on the other hand, are student-driven and social, offering a space for peers to connect over shared interests while being supervised by a mentor. Whether in a structured class or a casual club, students have the freedom to pursue their passions in a fun and enriching way.

Student Council Leadership is a dynamic, hands-on course that empowers students to develop leadership skills, teamwork, and civic engagement. Through organizing school events, field trips, community service projects, and student initiatives, participants gain experience in public speaking, decision-making, and collaboration. The class fosters responsibility, problem-solving, and creative thinking as students work together to make a meaningful impact on their school and community. With an emphasis on leadership in action, this course provides students with the confidence and skills to be effective, ethical leaders both inside and outside the classroom.

CROCHET CLUB

Crochet Club is a creative and relaxing space where students learn and practice the art of crochet. Basic instruction is included, with students learning and practicing a new stitch each week. The remainder of the time will be spent working on individual projects like scarves, blankets, and amigurumi while sharing tips and techniques. The club fosters creativity, patience, and community, with opportunities to collaborate on group projects, donate handmade items, or simply unwind with like-minded peers.
