Middle School 6th / 7th Grade
Our Middle School program provides a dynamic and supportive environment designed specifically for 'tween' students. As maturity in this age increases, we focus on developing essential work habits, organizational skills, and resilience while nurturing confidence and self-esteem. With an emphasis on "quality over quantity," we help students build grit and stamina for the academic challenges ahead, while also supporting individual academic needs. Our approach blends conceptual learning with skill development, offering a standards-aligned curriculum enriched with engaging, thought-provoking assignments. At the same time, we cultivate a vibrant social experience that makes learning both enjoyable and impactful.

And yes - we still believe in recess and an extended lunch break! Breaks and built-in social time allow students to recover from directed-attention fatigue and also boosts a sense of
connectedness and community as students enjoy time together!

Courses, Curriculum, & Progression Pathways
Our Middle School 6th/7th program offers a two-year, well-rounded curriculum covering core subjects—ELA, Math, Science, and Social Studies—alongside academic enrichment, social development, and engaging elective opportunities. After completing 7th grade, students transition into our Junior High program, where 8th and 9th graders learn together in a dynamic, growth-focused environment, preparing them for a strong start to their upper high school years.

Courses are delivered in two formats: Leveled (each year builds on the next) and Cyclical (content is unique and can be taken in any order). This flexible structure ensures that all students receive standards-aligned content in disciplinary subjects such as science, history, and literature over the course of two years, while also allowing for personalized instruction in skill-based subjects such as math and structured literacy (reading, spelling, grammar, etc.). By working at their appropriate challenge level, students build confidence, strengthen their understanding, and achieve their academic goals in a supportive and engaging learning environment.

Math: Leveled Instruction
Students are placed in math cohorts based on their skill level, rather than their chronological grade, ensuring they receive the appropriate challenge or support needed to succeed in this subject. Students progress sequentially through the curriculum, mastering foundational concepts before advancing to higher-level coursework. This approach allows for acceleration or reinforcement as needed. Students in 6th and 7th grade will complete two years of math in middle school, with the end goal of completing 7th grade math (standard track) OR pre-algebra (accelerated track) before 8th grade.

Disciplinary Subjects: 2-Year Cycle
Disciplinary subjects include science, social studies, literature, and composition. Since these subjects are theme-based, students take these courses in the order they are offered, rather than a strict sequence, while still ensuring students hit essential learning targets over the course of 2 years. This approach offers teachers a unique opportunity to focus on delivering one or two courses, rather than 4 or 5, giving them more time to plan, prepare, and create the most dynamic learning experience possible!

Afternoon Enrichment Rotation
Our middle school includes an afternoon enrichment rotation that introduces a variety skills through theme-based units that encompass a variety of life skills, art, entrepreneurship, health, fitness, and more!

Support & Supplementation
Since most students present with varying abilities through different subjects, we provide both support and supplementation models to ensure students receive the support and challenge they need to thrive. We have several plans in place for students who require additional support, including fundamentals level classes and/or accommodations and modifications to standard level courses. Remediation opportunities are available for an added fee.
Likewise, students who enjoy a challenge will be offered advanced placement opportunties as available and/or offered our honors-level track assignments, which include additional reading, research, reports, presentations, and more.
